We spent our bank holiday weekend in a yurt with our 3 year old son and it totally exceeded our expectations! It was lovely and cosy, had everything we needed and the surroundings were amazing. Our son loved the parks and fishing by the lake. The cheeky ducks on the hunt for food also caused great excitement when they invited themselves into the yurt. We received a warm welcome from Alex and the wine on arrival was a really nice touch. We’ll definately be returng soon. Thanks Alex
Just returned from a 3 night stay at Low Wray in one of the double yurts. It was absolutely amazing! We went with our 2 year old and he loved it too. The yurts are beautiful. Warm and cosy and lovely that you can have a fire in the evening.
We sat outside one evening and lit the fire pit and drank wine.
We managed to fit the travel cot by the side of our bed in the double yurt and our son slept really well. Alex and Don had left us a bottle of wine (which was opened within 5 minutes of arriving!) which was a lovely gesture. The campsite is very quiet, but has a shop and there are lots of little things to explore like the bridge going to the shop where our son spent forever just sat down throwing stones in the water.
There is a little playground for children and walking around the campsite looking at the gypsy caravans and tipi’s was great.
The shower blocks are extremely clean and modern – the best we have ever seen whils camping.
We are already planning our next stay and really cannot wait to go back! I will definitely not be wasting time putting a tent up again knowing that these are available!
Thanks Alex,
We all had a fantastic time thank you. The yurts were delicious
We saw some fantastic birds and heard a night jar!
Yum.
Thanks again,
Emma
Second stay at Low Wray and we honestly couldn’t ask for more. Location is stunning and the warmth of hospitality makes this place a little special. I can’t urge you enough to go and experience a few nights of peace, wine in the glass, fire burning with only the sound of the trees (and hungry ducks) to keep you company.
Oh, and I know the bucket swing is supposed to be for children but it is big enough for those of us who refuse to grow up.
Thank you very much. We had a really great week and that fire really kept the chill off! Mark (who has camped pretty much everywhere in the Lakes) was a bit unsure before going but he loved staying in the yurt and said that it was one of the best campsites he had been to. And my daughter loved the camping experience (especially the friendly ducks!). So, we will be back next year around the same sort of time (if you’re not fully booked, of course).
Wonderful – Four cosy nights with the kids over Easter break. The Yurt was fantastic and the site was brilliant, with friendly staff and good facilities. Great location, and lots to do locally. The kids loved the playgrounds. Can’t recommend highly enough!
Hi Alex
Sorry for late review but as we reflect back on Our Easter hols now- one of the major highlights was our short but magical stay in the ”Double Yurt’. We all really loved it – comfortable and cosy inside, fabulous location and a wonderful place to enact various magical adventures in the woodland for the kids.. We did two great walks directly from the site which was great. Hope to return with friends in the near future!

We stayed over Easter for 3 nights. We had a great time it’s our first time in a yurt so didn’t know what to expect. The yurt was lovely it was plenty big enough for 4. It was really comfortable with everything we needed & it was nice to arrive to a bottle of ginger wine. We loved the log burning stove it kept us very warm & cosy. It was great to sit out at night around the fire pit/bbq. The location of the yurt was lovely with lots of space around us & near to the water. There was lots to do in the surrounding area, but my daughter loved the play park & made lots of friends. We all can’t wait to stay here again.
Oh yes, a simply spiffing time was had by all. Our yurt was cosy, well equipped and in an idyllic woodland spot. The girls went feral and had a wonderful time roaming around building dens and making lots of new friends.
We stayed for a week and even had a stormy and snowy night midweek. No problem for us – we stoked up the stove and were snug as bugs. There are plenty of walking and biking opportunities right from the site and lots of wildlife to be found. We were especially fond of the swans and the cheeky pair of ducks that regularly quacked us up in the mornings looking for a snack.
The site is amazing, Alex and Donna are great hosts and we will be returning soon – to stay in the Gypsy Caravan this time – can’t wait!!
We have just spent a long weekend in a yurt at Low. Wray to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday. The two boys also booked on a full day introduction to bushcraft course with Alex. The yurt was brilliant, very cosy and well equipped. The complimentary wine was a nice touch. The course was excellent value for for money, very well presented and my son had the chance to teach his dad a thing or two about making fire (apparently!!). All very enjoyable and I got a day to myself. Idyllic spot and the Drunken Duck at Barngates is only a stone’s throw if you don’t feel like cooking. Highly recommended, we’ll definitely be back. Thanks Alex and Richard for your help in arranging everything.
