A Typical Gypsy Caravan Break
Meet us at one of our beautiful and secluded private camps or at a country pub where you can leave and forget about your car for a few days.
You’ll have the opportunity to take the reigns and drive the horse and wagon along quiet country roads, after some instructions but we’ll always be near to hand so no need for any experience or worries.
We take you from one beautiful camp to the next. We set you up with a fire and all you need before leaving you for the night to enjoy your privacy, nature and adventure holiday.
Little Salkeld Watermill Draw up between the brook and the mill race at a working watermill with organic bakery, café and deli. Breadmaking courses and milk from the goats on offer. Breakfast here is recommended.
The Bee Keeper’s Quarry 2 miles outside Penrith, this disused farmers’ quarry has been used by a beekeeper to house hives after being a traditional Romany camping spot. A wooded, secluded spot with lively bird life…
Ravensbridge An old mill converted sympathetically into a beautiful eco-home. Try out the wood-fired sauna before jumping straight in for a dip in the lake.
WHAT HAPPENS AT NIGHT?
At night Barny, your charismatic and capable guide will head back home, leaving you alone in one of the private overnight camps; however also staying with you will be the trusty and gentle horses – Charlie & Bob – don’t worry they are tethered and it could be said they look after you rather than the other way round!
Each evening, you’ll pitch up at a camping place with all the basics ready.. You sleep in the Caravan, and by the end of the trip you will not want to sleep anywhere else!
Pick up and Drop off
Barny is very flexible and so can work around the arrangements of anyone (within reason), like for instance picking up from and dropping off to Penrith train station – a surreal experience no doubt! Also he is flexible and can do more or less of any part as you like / see fit, including sleeping on some choice (not by dirty / busy roads) verges if you want to go slightly more ‘authentic’, this would be upon request only..
