Yggdrasil – The Yurt in the Ghyll

Yggdrasil is our 18ft yurt, nestled in the bottom of the ghyll by the edge of the brook, underneath our most beautiful oak tree.

Yggdrasil has its own adjoining cabin which has been adapted as a kitchen, featuring a gas stove and running water, as well as your own ghyll shower and compost toilet.

Yggdrasil in Viking mythology is an immense and central oak, just like the one which stands over your yurt. Around it exists all else, including the Nine Worlds. Yggdrasil is central to the cosmos and considered very holy, and the Norse Gods go to Yggdrasil daily. The branches of the tree extend far into the heavens, and the trunk is supported by three roots that extend far away into other locations; one to the well Urðarbrunnr in the heavens, one to the spring Hvergelmir, and another to the well Mimisbrunnr. Creatures live within Yggdrasil, including the dragon Níðhöggr, a Viking Eagle, and the stags Dáinn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr and Duraþrór… so be careful never to disturb the tree. It’s the perfect place to retreat into another world during your stay with us.
