Do you have any house rules?
We don’t like the word “rules” – but we want everyone to enjoy their stay so please see the Checklist section of our “Enjoy Your Stay” tab on the website.
How do I pay?
Your booking summary has a link that allows you to pay by card or by PayPal. If you’re having trouble then just give us a call on 07850 204362 and we will sort it for you.
Do you accept pets?
We love dogs and we do accept other pets (we think – please let us know what else you are bringing…). We do have a 2 dog maximum rule and we ask you to ensure they are well behaved, on a lead at all times and that you always clean up after them. Please be considerate to all our other guests and all our animals. Some people can be afraid of dogs and it’s important they are respected. We are in the heart of Cumbrian farming country, with a huge variety of animals, so it’s important dogs are well controlled at all times. Please always keep dogs away from the animals. Of particular concern are our sheep and our chickens – dogs can have a very serious effect on their health. Even if a dog does not physically attack the sheep or chickens, they can still suffer tremendous stress which can cause significant harm to the animals when threatened by what they perceive to be a predator. Pigs, horses and other dogs, on the other hand, can become aggressive when confronted with what they perceive as a threat. So please ensure you have your dog under control at all times and if in any doubt, then please make sure they are on a lead.
In the accommodation, all pets must be kept off the furniture … a cleaning fee of £30 will be charged if additional cleaning is required (sorry … we don’t like stating that sort of thing and most people stick to the rules … so please make sure you are not one of the offenders!)
What time is check in/out?
Your accommodation will be available from 3pm on the day of arrival and we ask that you leave by 11am on the day of departure. So that we can keep the next guests happy, our hard working team needs a chance to get the venue looking as good as it did when you arrived.
What is your cancellation policy?
Reservations can be changed or cancelled free of charge up to 4 weeks (28 days) before your arrival date, in which case deposits will be refunded in full. If you cancel within 4 weeks of arrival we will charge a 50% cancellation fee and if it is within 7 days of arrival then the cancellation fee will be 100%.
What do you provide?
We aim to provide everything you will need for an enjoyable camping experience so that you can cook, sleep, stay warm and wash. Here is a link to our checklist of what is in your accommodation and what we recommend you bring with you. The crux of what we recommend you bring are food, drink, towels, soap, toothpaste, warm clothes and good shoes. White trainers will likely not be white when you leave and the local off-licence is 5 miles away so please come prepared!
Do you have parking?
Yes. However, it is not right next to your accommodation. In order to protect the environment around the farm, the yurts and the cabin, we have a central parking area for all cars. As such, please pack your gear so you can carry all of your belongings to your accommodation.
How do I get my stuff to my accomodation?
The above said, and as well as the use of broad shoulders, we also have wheelbarrows to transport things back and forth from the yurts and the cabins. PLUS, when he is not too grumpy, then our little Shetland pony, Jet Jet, may very occasionally make himself available to help … BUT, that said, he is often grumpy!
What should I do if I have an issue?
Call or WhatsApp Rasmus on 07850 204 362. You can also try emailing us on info@widlinstyle.co.uk though it may take a little longer for us to reply. And remember, all of the units are not far from the farm house and you can always come and knock on the door. In case of an emergency and you are not able to contact anyone at the farm, then please call Barny on 07815 439 130 and he will help you to find a solution.
Where’s the toilet?
Each unit has its own private compost toilet and shower.
What is a compost toilet?
The compost loo system we use at Wild in Style is a perfect ecological & waterless solution. Since we discovered this system, we’re very confused as to why it’s not more commonly used. It’s really (and surprisingly) simple. The trick is to separate the liquid (peepee) from the solids (poopoos). If you’re as excited about how simple and effective our toilets are, then you might like to read a bit more about the “movement” by clicking here.
How do I use a compost loo?
Our loos look like any normal toilet. The trick is that we separate solids from liquids. So the key is that you always sit down to do your business. Wee goes in the front, poo goes in the back, just like we’re designed. AND, If you do a #2, pop a handful of sawdust or straw in to help it all compost. Please also remember, only put things in which are compostable. No plastic, no sanitary towels, no wet wipes, no nothing that doesn’t compost! There is a separate bin for anything non-compostable…and always stick to the rule that “if in doubt then don’t put it in”.
Where do I get water from?
There is clean, running drinking water direct to your yurt or cabin.
Is there electricity?
All the units have 12v USB charging points and lighting. These charging points are suitable for small appliances such as phones, battery packs and torches. However, please note that all the electricity at your accommodation is generated by a solar panel on the unit. That’s great, but it does mean the electricity is finite and when it’s finished, it’s finished, and there’s no more until the sun shines again.
Larger appliances can not be charged at any of the units. However, we do live in the modern world (sort of!) and we can sometimes find a plug for a computer or for larger devices up at the farm. So if you are in real need (and you have permission from your partner and/or kids) then just ask us and we’ll see what we can do.
Is there a fridge or freezer?
No – we’re living as nature intended.
Is there a TV?
No – see point above.
Do you have Wi-Fi/phone signal?
As an added escape from your daily routine, there is no WiFi signal in any of the accommodation. Phone signals are generally poor, though we have not found a fool-proof way of blocking them completely yet. Therefore, if you find the right spot and stand at a funny angle, you can sometimes get a decent signal.
On occasions, particularly now that many people are working remotely, guests have needed a stable connection for work assignments or video calls or when they are pretending they’re not on holiday etc. If you find yourself in that situation then please talk to Rasmus and we can normally find a space for you up at the farm where you can sit and get a good WiFi/Mobile connection. PS – he may need plying with beer if you don’t want him telling the rest of your holiday crew!
Do you accept children/groups?
We love families and groups, young and old. One of the magical things about Wild in Style is that you have your space all to yourselves and you are free to enjoy your time with the people you love and want to be with, in the heart of nature. However, please remember that our other guests are in the same situation. So all we ask is that everyone is respectful of all of the other people who may be here at Wild in Style. At least half our guests are families and we often have large gatherings of families or friends who rent all the yurts and cabins in order to spend some quality time sitting around the campfire talking and reconnecting. We think that a reasonable compromise is that we don’t allow loud noise or music late into the night (i.e. after 23:00).
Are we allowed to have a fire?
There is something special about a campfire. All our accommodation has its own private fire pit with seating and cooking facilities. However, please remember that fire is dangerous and please keep that in mind at all times, especially if you are not used to an open fire. As conservation is a key part of the Wild in Style project please only use the fire pits and logs provided (and if you need more logs then please purchase them from us up at the farm). Under no circumstances must you use wood from any of our trees (they are all under protection orders as we are in an ancient woodland) and never make a bonfire outside of the firepit provided. Sorry we get a bit grumpy about this stuff, but our environment means the world to us and we do not want to jeopardise it.
Inside the accommodation all of the units also have wood burning stoves in them, so you can stay warm on cold nights.
Do I need to bring firewood or charcoal?
No. Guests are provided with a full basket of firewood on arrival. If you need more wood during your stay, we can supply extra baskets at £5/basket and we can also offer high quality, smokeless charcoal for a fee, which is very popular for cooking on as it gives a very stable heat.
You are also welcome to bring your own supplies of wood or charcoal but please note that it is not permitted to burn mineral coal in the wood burners as it burns too hot and is likely to crack the stove and cause a fire hazard.
Can we pet the farm animals?
Yes … BUT remember that our animals are farm animals and are not tamed as pets. It is important they are always treated with care and respect AND it is important to remember that farm animals can be unpredictable and if not treated properly, they can be dangerous and may cause injury, so please do not approach them without supervision.
If you are around the farm at feeding time (morning or evening) then you may even be able to help us feed the animals. If you would like to come along and help at feeding time then please ask us when you arrive – we can normally work things out and kids tend to love it.
As stated above, please keep dogs away from the animals. Even if a dog does not physically attack the sheep or chickens, they can still suffer tremendous stress which can cause significant harm to the animals, when threatened. Pigs, horses and other dogs, on the other hand can become aggressive to what they perceive as a threat. So please ensure you have your dog under control at all times and if in any doubt, then please make sure they are on a lead.
