Here at Wild in Style, we are big fans of the invigorating benefits of wild swimming. There are hundreds, if not thousands of places in the Lake District to explore and go and get wet. There are lots of ways to enjoy the water, from our local community outdoor pool to indoor swimming pools, or maybe you fancy a bit of adventure? A day out ghyll scrambling is a real treat and there are lots of opportunities to hire paddle boards, boats or to enjoy a relaxing trip on a traditional steamer. Here are some of our favourite places for getting our feet (and the rest of it) wet.
Splashing About
Swimming in Lake Ullswater
Ullswater is one of the most accessible and cleanest lakes in the whole Lake District. There are loads of spots where you can stop all the way around the lake and it has spectacular views wherever you jump in. Excellent for paddle boarding, lake kayaking… or just getting down to your shorts and splashing about.
Surf and Wake
Great place to hire paddle boards, boats, go wake boarding and generally have a fun day on the water. Based on the north-west end of Ullswater, near Pooley Bridge, this is the closest watersports place on the big lakes.
Tower House Pool
Our local indoor swimming pool in Melmerby is ideal for a rainy day or if you just fancy a relaxing afternoon. Just 4.5 miles away, this could be tied in with a family bike ride, or do the walk to Melmerby and make a day out of it, combined with a trip to the Old Village Bakery.
Hunsonby Outdoor Pool
This is a wonderful community run project which is a real treat for kids to splash about in.
Keswick Launch Co.
If you fancy a trip down to Keswick and Derwentwater, then this is a great place to hire a boat or do other watersports. Whether you want to get your feet wet, or simply cruise on the lake, there is something for everyone here.
Ullswater Steamers
Historic passenger trips on the beautiful Ullswater. Iconic boats and the ultimate in relaxation.
